Art Institute of Atlanta
Since 1949, The Art Institute of Atlanta has been committed to educating students for career success. From typing to media arts and animation, from speedwriting to designing for the Web, from fashion merchandising to the culinary arts, The Art Institute has long been on the forefront of providing educational opportunities in leading-edge career skills. Excellence in both education and job placement has distinguished the college over its 50-year history, reflecting The Art Institute's market-responsiveness, entrepreneurial spirit, and commitment to student success.
Founded as Massey Business College, with diploma programs in basic business and secretarial skills, the school added liberal arts, fashion, and interior design during the next two decades. After becoming The Art Institute of Atlanta in 1975, the college shifted its focus to a creative applied arts curriculum. Accreditation by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools soon followed. The culinary arts program was added in 1991, and The Art Institute has continued to add new programs as business needs have evolved. In honor of its 50-year anniversary in 1999, the college celebrated its legacy as an educational pioneer and dedicated its new campus to students and to the future.
The Art Institute of Atlanta is a college of creative professional studies with a solid tradition of excellence in career-focused education. In 1999, The Art Institute celebrated fifty years of commitment to students and their success in their chosen fields. In that same year, the college moved to a new, five-story, 115,000-square-foot facility.
As of fall 2004, about 75 percent of the college's 2,650 students come from Georgia, with the remaining students representing forty-two states and thirty-three countries. About half the student body is under 22, and about half are over 21, adult students returning to college or studying to earn a second degree. The college is proud of the diversity of the student body. The program of study is rigorous and includes art foundation and general education courses, as well as technical courses in each field.
Program offerings are reviewed regularly to stay current with the needs of a rapidly changing business environment. Students may attend day or evening classes in most programs. The Personal Track program offers an opportunity to take classes for credit on a part-time basis.
The Art Institute of Atlanta is one of The Art Institutes (www.artinstitutes.edu), with 35 education institutions located throughout North America, providing an important source of design, media arts, fashion and culinary professionals. The parent company of The Art Institutes, Education Management Corporation (www.edmc.com) is among the largest providers of private post-secondary education in North America, based on student enrollment and revenue.
