Carroll College - Wisconsin

Students in Carroll College's art program are fortunate to be part of a small school setting in a culturally rich major metropolitan area. Art students take advantage of small classes and personalized attention while visiting museums and galleries, and attending lectures in Milwaukee, Madison and Chicago. Carroll-sponsored exhibitions allow both art majors and non-art majors to showcase their best work. Carroll's commitment to the arts is evident in the modern art facility, which features spacious studios, a gallery, student exhibition spaces, an art library and a computer lab.


About the Art Program

Learning Outcomes

Upon graduation, the art student will be able to demonstrate:
1. Mastery of skills in his/her chosen area of emphasis.
2. Familiarity with the history of art and the ability to discuss it within the context of their work.
3. Ability to write articulately about art.
4. Ability to present self and work professionally.
5. Ability to develop a cohesive body of work.


Curriculum
* Emphases include fine arts, art education, commercial art and photography.
* Students are required to have a senior art show and portfolio approved by the art faculty.
* Trips are taken to the Chicago Art Institute, and Milwaukee galleries and museums.
* Students have the opportunity to study abroad. Past trips include Italy, Greece and Egypt.
* All majors are encouraged to attend art exhibition openings and/or workshops and field trips sponsored or approved by the art program.
* Courses are offered that utilize technological media.


Internships
* Commercial art and photography majors are required to complete a work-oriented experience.
* Past placements have included Milwaukee Art Museum, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Graphics Factory and Hamilton-Mueller Design Agency.
