College of Santa Fe
About CSF
CSF is a private college founded in 1859 by the Lasallian Brothers, a Catholic teaching order devoted to the following ideals still embraced on campus today:
* Excellence in teaching
* Service to the community
* A holistic approach to learning
* Respectful, collegial relationships
We seek to help students understand the world and find ways of making it better. For us, that includes students of every demographic. We are diligent in offering flexible programs so that all are welcome and able to study here. We emphasize thoughtful academic advising, and pay specific attention to ethical values, both in and out of class.
We are committed to educating the "whole student." Our core curriculum includes interdisciplinary team-taught courses that explore complex subjects in the humanities, creative expression, social and natural sciences.
Academics
CSF's distinctive curriculum is taught by a dedicated faculty of scholars, artists and professionals from around the world.

The Core Curriculum
Students fulfill certain academic requirements designed to ensure a well-rounded liberal arts education.
In the fall semester, freshmen explore a contemporary topic in depth through special team-taught classes. In the spring, freshmen choose from a number of writing-intensive classes. Sophomores participate in roundtable seminars, while juniors take classes in ethical responsibility and cultural diversity. Seniors take a capstone class in their field of study.
Art
Visual art can challenge the intellect, it can elicit an emotional reaction in both the artist and the viewer, and it can push the boundaries of form and content.
Vital to producing work that stimulates a response is knowledge of art history, literature, socio-political issues, religion, philosophy, and other realms of thought that enlighten and inform your ideas.
In the Art Department, you'll learn your craft and hone your voice while studying the liberal arts to gain perspective essential for the pursuit of art as a creative profession and as a humanistic endeavor.
Moving Image Arts
The Moving Image Arts Department offers a comprehensive program that integrates film, video and digital production with critical studies and writing.
We are committed to developing a creative environment where students can produce work that challenges the prevailing political, cultural and aesthetic conventions.
The curriculum is grounded in a liberal arts education with an emphasis on social awareness and personal responsibility. Our approach is to look toward alternative modes of expression and to encourage students to think critically about artistic work. At the center of our program is the aspiring artist working to find his or her voice.
Performing Arts
Although actors perform their art in front of audiences, the craft of acting, of becoming a new person, is deeply personal. It takes time and dedication to learn technique, to understand how to access the part of you that you turn into someone else and that's what happening on the stage.
Designing and building sets, creating costumes, devising the lighting scheme and sound effects each piece of a production is an art unto itself.
In CSF's Performing Arts Department, students learn all facets of stage production. This strong foundation makes CSF theater grads well respected around the country for their knowledge and professionalism. And unlike many conservatory programs, CSF has no waiting period for first-year students all performing arts students audition for mainstage productions upon arrival freshman year.
National and international theater professionals are brought in regularly to act as guest directors and actors and to lead classes and special seminars. In addition to mainstage plays, students also perform in studio shows, recitals, workshops, music forums and student films.
