University of Pittsburgh at Bradford (Communication and the Arts)
About Pitt-Bradford
The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford is for students who want to earn a world-renowned degree in a personalized, safe and friendly environment.
Students can choose from 40 majors and more than 50 minors, concentrations and pre-professional programs. They study on our 317-acre campus, which is nestled in the foothills of the Allegheny Mountains. Being that close to nature means you will have unique opportunities to study both in the classroom and beyond.
Our professors are dedicated to teaching. You won't find graduate assistants teaching courses. And, since our classes are small, our professors work closely with their students, giving them personal attention.
Pitt-Bradford is a four-year college of the University of Pittsburgh system. So, when our students graduate, they have the prestigious University of Pittsburgh degree, which is recognized all over the world. They also have an education that can take them beyond.
Majors and Minors
Interdisciplinary Arts Major
Do you love music? Art? Theater? Can’t decide which one you love more? With our interdisciplinary arts major, you’ll study all three.
As an artist, you’ll study art history. You’ll draw. Paint. Create ceramic pieces. Design computer graphics. In music, you’ll perform. Write about music. Create music. Take voice and instrument lessons. And, in theater, you’ll perform on stage. And work backstage. And, you’ll do all of this in our fine arts building. It was built with artists – like you – in mind.
When you graduate, you’ll be prepared for several exciting careers in the arts. Be an arts journalist. Catalog and describe arts collections. Manage an arts company. Or, you can take what you’ve learned and go to graduate school.
Art Minor
Our flexible art minor is designed to complement our diverse selection of professional degrees. We will broaden your educational experience through a studio-based art program. You will grow creatively in both the understanding and execution of fine art works. Our array of courses include traditionally offered two- and three-dimensional art courses such as acrylic painting, watercolor painting, drawing, printmaking, computer graphics and ceramics. We also offer a mural painting course that will give you the rare opportunity to study and help produce a large-scale mural.
The art minor also includes courses in art history. By coupling art studio experiences with art history studies, your perception of art will be enhanced. And, you will be able to better understand yourself and your role in society as both a producer of art and as an attuned viewer of art. A minor in art will help you discover your unique creative talents and hone your aesthetic understanding of you own culture and also other diverse cultures.
Theatre Minor
Our theatre program will give you the opportunity to learn about theatre arts through academic course work and practical experience. Theatre courses include basic and advanced acting, stagecraft, play analysis, theater history, directing, and playwriting. You may also earn credit by being a cast or crew member in the two full-length productions that are staged each academic year.
