Dana College (Art Department)

The Art Department at Dana College is dedicated to providing students the skills and knowledge they will need to succeed in the world of art and the world of life. You'll learn theories that have shaped art for centuries, as well as the latest trends in interactive media. And through it all, you'll benefit from one-on-one relationships with your professors, who will remain your mentors for life.

Dana offers students the chance to study drawing, design, interactive media design, ceramics, printmaking, sculpture, photography, painting, audio design, video design and art history. Special emphasis is placed on learning by doing. You will make art in Dana's art classes, and you'll learn how to look critically at your own work as well as the work of others.

At Dana, you'll learn the essential skills and knowledge employers are looking for. But more than that, you'll be confident that your broad education will leave you prepared for all the challenges and changes life will throw your way. Your ability to work as part of a team, lead others, learn quickly and think outside the box will make you an invaluable asset in any workplace.

Art Program
Dana College students may choose to major in Art, Art Education or Interactive Media (iMedia). Art and Art Education majors take a variety of studio courses in ceramics, drawing, design, painting, photography, printmaking, and sculpture. Art majors have the latitude to focus on a studio area of their choice. Any student admitted to Dana College may pursue an art major.

The iMedia program is unlike any program in the region, focusing on the creative use of web-based technology. iMedia majors study and practice design theory, image-making, typography, interactivity, navigation and the use of audio and motion through hands-on, web-based practice.

Senior iMedia majors take a capstone course where study in the concentration area serves as the focus for a semester-long, "real life" web design project. The possibilities are limited only by your individual goals and imagination!

Students must be accepted into the iMedia program. Acceptance is based on a minimum GPA of 3.0 and ACT score of 20. Students who do not meet this standard may take a year of art courses and petition for acceptance into the major in their sophomore year.

DEVELOP YOUR TALENTS
Art is more than a class or a course of study. It's a way of life. Whether you choose to major in Art, Art Education (K–12) or iMedia, our faculty will work with you to achieve your creative and career goals.

Learning and growth are not limited to the time spent in class. Out-of-class time in the studios, whether during evenings, odd hours or weekends, is an important opportunity to develop skills while socializing with other art students and faculty members. The casual environment of the art studio and computer lab provides a setting in which faculty members are able to relate to students in a mentoring role.

The Dana College Art Department features state-of-the-art facilities, including a continuously updated Macintosh computer lab, spacious studios, a fully equipped darkroom and a bronze foundry. All facilities are open throughout the day and late into the night for student access.
