Mission Statement
The mission of Northeast Alabama Community College is to provide accessible quality educational opportunities, promote economic growth, and enhance the quality of life for the people of Alabama.
To accomplish the mission, Northeast Alabama Community College has established the following goals or intended results:
* An "open-door" admission policy which insures nondiscriminatory educational opportunities for citizens of all races, creeds, colors, national origins, genders, ages, disabilities, or social groups.
* General education at the freshman and sophomore levels that prepares students to continue their education through transfer.
* Courses in transfer and career programs that are available, accessible and affordable to students.
* Instruction leading to the attainment of specified learning outcomes which help assure student preparedness for transfer and/or the workforce.
* Recruitment and retention of qualified personnel who are afforded professional development opportunities and institutional support needed to provide quality postsecondary education.
* Developmental education which assists individuals who need to improve their basic learning skills and supports individuals lacking college preparatory backgrounds.
* Technical, vocational and career education programs that prepare students for employment in occupational fields and which lead to certificates, diplomas and/or associate degrees.
* Training that meets the specific educational needs of businesses, industries, community organizations, and governmental agencies.
* Student services which assist individuals to formulate and achieve career, educational and personal goals through counseling and academic advisement services and provide opportunities to participate in social and cultural activities.
* Community services which support personal growth, cultural enrichment, and societal activities; provide access to college facilities for community activities; and promote community, social, and economic improvement.
* Procurement and administration of financial resources in an effective manner.
* Provision for and maintenance of a physical plant with instructional facilities and technology suitable for all the institution's programs and services.
English and Fine Arts Division
The English and Fine Arts Division of Northeast Alabama Community College includes the following departments: Art, English, Music, and Theatre. Each of these disciplines has its own faculty and offers its own major program.
The English and Fine Arts Division offers the College Transfer Program which leads students to an Associate in Arts, Associate in Science, or Associate in General Education degree. These degrees may be pursued on an online, day, and/or evening schedule. The division also offers the general education core courses of written composition and humanities and fine arts for the Associate in Applied Science degree.
Art Department
The Art Department at NACC offers a full range of the Visual Arts courses available in the first two years of an Art curriculum. We offer classes in art appreciation, art history, studio classes in drawing, two-dimensional and three-dimensional design, painting, print-making, sculpture, and water color. These courses are all transferable inside of their own areas.
Spectrum, the art club, is involved in a variety of campus activities with many other clubs and organizations at Northeast Alabama Community College. Anyone with an interest in art is invited to join.
Music Department
Northeast Alabama Community College's music department, located in the Beck Health and Fine Arts building, offers a full range of courses in fundamentals, musicianship, theory, appreciation, as well as classes in piano, voice and guitar. Private lessons are available on most instruments, including voice.
The Department also offers a wide range of performing ensembles which are both an integral part of every musician's education and an opportunity for adults from the community to participate in the performance of great masterworks. Instrumental performing ensembles at Northeast include the Jazz Band and Jazz Combo. Vocal performing ensembles include the Chorus (auditioned mixed voices) and Encore, (auditioned show choir).
The department's facilities include
* A music lab, which is open five days a week. It contains 12 Yamaha clavinovas, each equipped with headphones for private practicing. There are also 5 computer stations. Each computer is equipped with Auralia (ear training software), Band In A Box (accompaniment software) and Sibelius (notation/composition software).
There is also an extensive library of CDs, DVDs, and video cassettes (along with listening/viewing facilities) and music reference books.
* A 340 seat auditorium with stage, featuring a 5.8 foot Yamaha concert grand piano.
Full tuition scholarships are available by audition for individuals participating in a performing ensemble.
