Hallmark Institute of Photography

Mission Statement

Hallmark Institute of Photography provides a real world, serious approach to professional photographic education, where training is completed within ten months. Our objective is to successfully educate and graduate professional image makers with the technical, artistic and business skills necessary for success. Upon completion of our program, graduates can expect to open their own photographic business or fill preliminary or advanced employment positions in the diverse and competitive marketplace of today's professional imaging industry. To fulfill our goals, we use only the most up-to-date technology, highly experienced and qualified staff, and a logical and realistic set of standards and processes, providing each of our students the tools they need to succeed.

Statement of Philosophy
Hallmark Institute of Photography is a dynamic community sustained by a passion for learning and sharing. We offer a stimulating, rigorous program in professional photography and imaging arts in an environment where creative energy flows, new ideas are developed and talent emerges.

Instructors create learning experiences that foster intellectual curiosity and imagination grounded in disciplined study. Students find their individual voice through open discussion, independent thought, hands on learning, respectful dissent, and the pursuit of continuous challenges.

Hallmark strives for diversity. Here, everyone is encouraged to participate, cared for and belief in and respect for one another are fundamental. Respectful relationships built between students and teachers are paramount to the success of our students. We value integrity, kindness and understanding. Hallmark Institute of Photography is committed to the highest standards of ethical behavior.

Our Educational and Training Center

Opened in the fall of 2002, this newly renovated sound studio-like open air environment was specifically designed to teach contemporary and digital photography.

The 50,000-square-foot facility features two expansive digital imaging instructional and work areas, the Digital Lab and the theater-style Imaging Lab. Together they contain 160 professional imaging workstations comfortably laid out over 10,000 square feet of space and specifically designed with student and instructor comfort in mind. A spacious 350-seat auditorium features impressive audio/video equipment for visiting photographer lecturers and classes alike. An enormous commercial shooting area is divided into sixteen commercial bays, while three large portrait rooms subdivide into nine individual portrait studios. Each bay and studio is fully equipped with a digitally compatible medium-format and/or 4x5 camera system with a variety of lenses, dedicated digital capture workstation, professional electronic lighting system with modification accessories, and unlimited studio props.

Twenty private faculty offices promote one-on-one interaction between instructors and students.

A bright, open and airy 6,000 square foot Student Lounge with vending machines, student lockers, and an Internet Café, is located on the second floor overlooking the Digital Lab and the building's main entrance.

Adjoining the Student Lounge is the "Photo-Shop", a retail student boutique, containing many treasures and essential photographic supplies for students and visitors. Our fully equipped research library, containing hundreds of books relating to the technique, art, and business of photography, is also located here.

In our Finishing Area, students learn the fine points of preparing and matting their own photographic prints for presentation or sale.

Our airy main entrance welcomes students, faculty, staff, and guests to the facility.

The Art & Technique of Photography

(Approximately 950 Clock Hours)

Hallmark has created a program of traditional and digital photography courses designed to prepare you for any assignment you might encounter after graduation. We have also created what we think is the best photographic learning environment in the country, with spacious labs and studios and the same equipment that professionals use every day. Here's what we offer:

* Traditional Photography
* Digital Photography

Hallmark’s 1400 clock hour program is delivered throughout four sequential phases and is made up of two primary modules: the Art and Technique of Photography, and the Business of Photography. Within these two primary modules there are six courses of study which each and every student participates in. The Art and Technique of Photography includes Traditional Photography and Digital Photography; the Business of Photography includes Management, Marketing, Finance, and Personnel. Each of these six courses are supported by numerous specific classes.
