Lake Erie College
Fine Arts
Studies in the Fine Arts are rooted in an interdisciplinary approach. A companion to the Liberal Arts concept, this philosophy suggests that a student who possesses a broader experience with and gains a greater understanding of the various creative processes in the arts, will become a more sensitive, expressive and effective artist. Therefore, Lake Erie College has abandoned the traditional "major" in the individual arts disciplines in favor of the more appropriate "concentration" within the Fine Arts major. All academic tracks require students to explore at least two other art disciplines besides that of their concentration.

Minor programs
MINORS
Academic Minor programs of study generally consist of a series of courses, totaling 16 to 20 semester credits, that provide a coherent body of knowledge in either a particular discipline or in an interdisciplinary cluster. Although by design not as extensive as an academic major, the pursuit of an academic minor—while not required—will provide content knowledge and a credential in a secondary area of specialization which might well help the future graduate in terms of further postgraduate education and employment.
Dance Department
Fine Arts (with Dance concentration)
Lake Erie College is committed to the development of student dancers. It is our goal to develop dance artists who are technically proficient, grounded in the history and aesthetic theory of their craft and skilled in the creation and production of original art work. Class sizes are typically small, and as a result, attention can be given to the individual needs of the student. The College faculty whole-heartedly believes that creative process work is essential to the formation of a "complete" dance artist. Therefore, in addition to course work in composition, all students who elect a dance concentration are required to join faculty and guest choreographers in the development and production of creative work which is presented in informal and formal venues throughout the academic year.

Educational Philosophy:
The Lake Erie College music program educates the musician in the spirit and context of the liberal arts. We believe in the emphasis on the study of music as important for the realization of personal potentials. In a nurturing environment, music study ensures a person is truly educated and assists him or her in the possibility of becoming an important, expressive and skillful artist. Lake Erie College also places an emphasis on the philosophical aspects and historical importance of the art of music in society, as well as its interdisciplinary connections with the other arts and humanities.
Facilities:
Lake Erie College has one of the finest concert halls of any college or university. The Paul S. Weaver Memorial Auditorium, located in Morley Music Hall is a beautiful concert hall that is used for many College and community performances. The concert hall stage and practice rooms are readily available to all music students for their musical studies and explorations. Practice rooms utilize Yamaha and Steinway pianos.
Instructional settings:
Because of Lake Erie College’s small size, music students benefit greatly. Regardless of level of proficiency, all instrumental and vocal studies are conducted in a private, one-on-one instructional setting. Furthermore, music courses for the concentration will have enrollments no higher than ten, assuring a personalized and nurturing academic environment.
Admission:
In order to encourage all students in the pursuit of the enrichment that a diverse education provides, students are NOT required to audition for admission into the music program. If a student meets the general requirements of admission to Lake Erie College and has a desire to explore self-expression through the discipline of music or further develop musical skills, the student is admitted into the program.
Visual Arts Department
Fine Arts (with visual arts concentration)
Lake Erie College's Visual Arts program is centered on an interdisciplinary studies curriculum that prepares students for exciting careers in the arts. This comprehensive liberal arts approach to learning incorporates intensive studio technique classes, art theory and criticism, and studies in visual culture. The Visual Arts program fosters students' self-confidence and skills by giving them opportunities to think critically, communicate effectively, and market their talents.
The BFA major culminates in an exhibition of the student's work in the College's B.K. Smith Gallery in the Fine Arts building. Students install their work and handle all curatorial and preparatory tasks, including lighting and arrangement of artwork. Candidates also produce publicity materials including press releases, invitations, and an artist statement, and they plan their opening reception. The reception provides the invaluable opportunity for them to speak publicly about their work.
Lake Erie College also offers an Arts Management degree for those who love the arts and want to prepare for careers in museums, galleries, and in other nonprofit arts organizations.
