Mesa Community College (Art Department)

About MCC

Student success is the number one priority of Mesa Community College. For over forty years, MCC has provided outstanding transfer, career, and service programs to the East Valley area of Phoenix, Arizona. Our nationally recognized student outcomes assessment program testifies to the faculty's commitment to more than 27,000 students who attend annually. MCC's Center for Teaching and Learning further energizes residential and adjunct faculty to excel in the classroom and in professional development.

A vital campus life enriches student learning in the areas of community service, leadership, and interpersonal skills. Clubs and organizations include student government, Phi Theta Kappa, Model UN, Chican@ de Aztlan, Theatre Outback, musical ensembles, art exhibits, and MCC's award-wining student newspaper, Mesa Legend. Championship athletics is a proud MCC tradition. All major team sports for men and women are offered. The athletics program has been nationally recognized for excellence and is a member of the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference and the National Junior College Athletic Association.

MCC fosters dynamic partnerships with the community. These partnerships help determine how MCC can best provide a quality workforce to the community we serve. Our Commission on Excellence in Education and membership in the East Valley Partnership enable community input on professional and career programs.

Academics

Mesa Community College provides quality instruction in more than 150 degree, career, and university transfer programs. Two-thirds of our students intend to transfer to four-year schools to complete baccalaureate degrees. Other students prepare themselves for the job market or take courses for personal enrichment.

Popular areas of study include business, education, engineering, biological and biomedical sciences, communication, psychology, visual and performance arts, and the social sciences. Career and technical programs provide career paths in fire science, automotive technology, mortuary science, biotechnology, and a full range of certificate and degree programs in nursing and other health care fields.

In addition to academic excellence, Mesa Community College is committed to preparing individuals for active citizenship in a diverse global society. Study abroad programs and international speakers on campus are coordinated through our International Education Office and the Center for Global Tolerance and Awareness. Annually, MCC welcomes more than two hundred international students from more than fifty countries, and many MCC students have studied abroad in Mexico, China, Italy, and Ireland.

In addition to traditional university transfer and career/technical classes, MCC offers community education, continuing education for practicing professionals, developmental education, and English as a second language. MCC's Business and Industry Institute, located in downtown Mesa, is a major community resource for training in computer networking and related areas.
