About ASU’s West campus

ASU's West campus currently serves nearly 8000 students on its growing, modern, urban campus in northwest Phoenix. Our campus features a friendly, supportive atmosphere in the context of a nationally acclaimed, PAC-10 university.

Our undergraduate and graduate-level courses lead to a wide range of degree programs and professional certificates offered through the New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences, the College of Teacher Education and Leadership, the College of Human Services, and the School of Global Management and Leadership.

The campus is dedicated to serving the evolving needs of high school graduates, working adults, returning students and continuing students.

Our mission encompasses research and teaching, faculty-student research collaboration, interdisciplinary perspectives, and the development of university-community partnerships.

Campus amenities include a library, cafeteria, child development center, fitness center, bookstore, credit union, computer center, lounges and meeting rooms, a residence hall and the Student Success Center, which offers an integrated approach to writing and tutoring support.

The campus also offers valuable resources for the community, including fine arts and cultural programs, business consulting, research reports, workshops, and special events.

ASU's West campus is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and is a member of the North Central Association. Professional programs in the colleges are also accredited by national boards and associations.


Interdisciplinary Arts & Performance

Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Arts and Performance
Programs in interdisciplinary, collaborative studies in the arts are developing throughout the United States. ASU's West campus Bachelor of Arts degree in Interdisciplinary Arts and Performance (IAP) is the only one of its kind in the southwest. This unique program incorporates a variety of media in the arts world. Majors take course work in Digital Media Arts, Music and Electronic Sound Art, Performance Studies, Theatre/Performance Arts , Digital Graphics and more Traditional Visual Arts. Students who leave ASU at the West campus with a B.A. in Interdisciplinary Arts and Performance enter the arts world through a variety of professional opportunities with skill sets that prepare them for significant careers in the 21st century.

The New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences at Arizona State University’s vibrant West campus carries its teaching success in its name – the New College is focused on the complex and often unique ways, interdisciplinary ways, in which different fields of study interact and affect each other in real-world, real-life applications.

The comprehensive interdisciplinary and disciplinary undergraduate and graduate degrees offered throughout the New College are designed to present innovative and hands-on, experiential coursework that completely prepares its students for the social, economic, political and cultural challenges they will face in a rapidly expanding, diverse, global marketplace.

In carefully crafting courses for these degrees, the nationally acclaimed New College faculty is committed to the development of programs that teach their students to nurture and expand their intellectual curiosity. Each program is focused on study and exploration that fosters a deeper understanding of the diversity and interdependent nature of the human experience. Coursework in all programs is offered to help students develop a critical outlook based on observation and a vast array of methods of inquiry. Attention to curriculum that supports a compassionate and creative approach to the complexities of real-world challenges is a hallmark of the New College.

The New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences prepares its students to take their place as independent thinkers and active participants in the shaping of society. The New College offers programs that emphasize experiential learning that spans academic disciplines, enhances appreciation of all forms of creative activity, and empowers student achievement in the humanities, the arts and the sciences.


Mission Statement

The New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences at ASU's West campus is committed to offering comprehensive interdisciplinary and disciplinary undergraduate and graduate degree programs.

In developing courses for these degrees, the faculty also provides a contemporary liberal arts education for general education and major field needs of ASU's West campus, Management, Education, and Human Services Students.

The New College programs are designed to meet the needs of a diverse population in the West Valley; these students seek a rigorous liberal arts foundation as their basis for pursuing post baccalaureate employment and for continuing their education in graduate and professional degree programs.

The faculty is committed to developing programs that teach students to nurture their intellectual curiosity, that foster their understanding of the diversity and interdependent nature of human experience, that help them develop a critical outlook based on observation and an array of methods of inquiry, and that support their efforts to be compassionate and creative in their approaches to other and to a variety of problems. They make every effort to apply new scholarship in their classes and degree programs.

The faculty is committed to the creation and application of new knowledge, critical perspective, and artistic work. They set the highest standards of scholarship for themselves and foster in their students the same motivation to pursue excellence.

Through its teaching, scholarship, community service efforts, and Fine Arts Cultural Programs, the Arts & Sciences faculty will contribute to the social and cultural milieu of the ASU's West campus community, the West Valley, and the greater Phoenix area.
