Otterbein College (Otterbein College Department of Art)

The mission of the Department of Art is to offer studio and art history programs linked to the College's liberal arts foundation, preparing graduates for a variety of professional options. Additionally, the department is committed to offering visual arts courses that complement the liberal education of all students at Otterbein.
At Otterbein, art students create in an environment of inquiry. Faculty seek to introduce students to an understanding of the artistic process and encourage them to commit themselves to the creation of meaningful works of art. Courses in art history provide an understanding of the historical and theoretical framework of the visual arts.
The Art Department offers a major in Art with concentrations in ceramics, computer art, drawing, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, and visual communication. Students may also pursue licensure in Art Education.

The Arts Administration courses and a series of business courses provide the structure for the minor and arts administrators from Columbus teach some courses. Students may supplement the minor by enrolling in internships that provide real-world experiences in this exciting field.

Art Education Licensure
Art Education students may complete the coursework required for K-12 teacher licensure. Art Educators at Otterbein meet Art Major requirements in studio and art history, and present a senior exhibition of their work. Visits to a variety of schools in the greater Columbus area provide a thorough preparation for a career in art education.
