Regis College
About Regis
Regis College is a Catholic liberal arts and sciences institution founded in 1927 by the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Boston. After eight decades as a women-only residential college, Regis is admitting undergraduate men to the incoming class in fall 2007.
About 1,600 undergraduate and graduate students attend classes on our beautiful 132-acre campus. Located on a former estate in the leafy suburb of Weston, Mass., Regis is only twelve miles away from the vibrant professional, educational, and cultural life of downtown Boston.
Our undergraduate students can choose from twenty-three majors, twenty-seven minors, an Honors Program, and a teacher's licensure program. We also offer three-year bachelor's programs for sixteen majors. Graduate students can pursue one of nine master's programs, four post-master's nursing certificates, or a doctoral degree in nursing practice.
Regis is a global community of learners that seeks to make the world a better place through our commitment to the development of the whole person. By linking classroom learning with real-world experience through internships, research, community service, and independent studies, students achieve success here and beyond.
Mission
Regis College, through education in the arts, sciences, and professions, empowers women and men to challenge themselves academically, to serve and to lead. A Catholic college, Regis is a diverse and welcoming community guided by the values of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Boston.

Graphic Design
"Today we live in a world that values visual expression as much as verbal description. A picture says a thousand words! For this reason, artists who are skilled visualists will find themselves in greater demand than ever before in both the public and private sectors. However, whether the artist works for a large corporation or by herself, she must find 'a way of imparting meaning to life and life to meaning.'"
- Norman Cousins

Theatre
Students who major in theatre at Regis College combine a liberal arts education with in-depth study of theatre in its historical and cultural contexts. Requirements for the major include foundation courses such as World Theatre in Its Context, Acting, Directing, and Technical Theatre. Students also chose from a wide variety of electives in the areas of performance, theatre production, and dramatic literature.
The Theatre Department emphasizes the importance of theatre as a collaborative art and provides students with classroom and production opportunities that promote mutual respect in a supportive environment. Educational outreach projects develop students' awareness of their ethical responsibility to the community and help them to examine their role as artists in society.
To ensure our graduates are competitive in the field, the department provides internship and service learning opportunities for hands-on training. Intensive training in our state-of-the-art Fine Arts Center prepares students to enter careers as theatre artists and educators.
The department approaches the study of theatre from the perspective that the best theatre artists are those who possess both a broad knowledge of the theory and literature of the field and highly developed artistic skills. As theatre examines the human condition, the program encourages students to explore complex connections between theatre and other liberal arts and sciences. The department recognizes the importance of all aspects of theatre and offers courses and/or practical training in performance, technical theatre, design, directing, management, playwriting, and dramaturgy.
Minors
Dance
Students may complete a minor in Dance through the Theatre program. The Regis College Dance Company also provides students with opportunities in dance and choreography. The student run company produces a dynamic dance concert each spring in the Casey Theatre.
Educational Theatre
Students pursuing majors outside the Theatre Department can complete an educational theatre minor. Educational theatre encompasses a broad spectrum of fields including Theatre for Children and Youth, Theatre-in-Education, Political Theatre and Drama in the Classroom. These fields employ theatre and drama as means for exploring the complex world in which we live.
Whether training young people to be theatre artists or helping doctors to be more receptive to their patients, theatre has the unique power of allowing us to see the world through multiple perspectives, and to reflect upon our role as active "players" in the world. The program at Regis College is dedicated to the principle that theatre educators must be accomplished theatre artists with a solid background in the theory and practice of the art.
