School of Advertising Art




School of Advertising Art (abbreviated SAA) is a private 2-year graphic design college located in Kettering, Ohio. Founded in 1984 by advertising artist Tim Potter, SAA trains creative artists to become professional graphic designers, illustrators, and web designers.

The School of Advertising Art faculty is comprised of professional graphic designers and artists in order to best prepare students for a real world work point of view and lessons. SAA Instructors include CLIO Award winners, Hermes / Gold ADDY winners, American Advertising Federation Silver Medal recipients, and presidents/owners of design companies.

As it is a graphic design college, all students are required to use their own Macintosh laptop computers using the leading provided computer graphics software, such as Adobe's Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash and InDesign; Macromedia's Freehand; QuarkXPress; and Apple Computer's Final Cut Pro and iMovie. SAA also instructs students on using animation and 3D rendering software like Cinema 4D and Toon Boom Studio.




History
Created by a graphic designer in 1983, the school of advertising art is distinguished in its foundation of innovation, daily commitment to excellence, seriousness of purpose and creative inspiration. Classes began in 1984, and the first class graduated in 1986. With this being our twenty-third year, saa has been providing the advertising, design, marketing and communications companies throughout the United States with highly skilled professionals for over two decades, a generation of graphic designers. Employers consider saa graduates as one of their primary sources of talent.

At saa you will develop your artistic abilities, professional work ethic, and time management skills. Beyond these essential career elements, one of the most important things you are going to learn at saa is how to think. Accreditation


The school of advertising art is accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology [ACCSCT]. The ACCSCT is listed by the U.S. Department of Education as a nationally recognized accrediting agency.

saa receives its Associate Degree authorization, Diploma Program authorization and Certificate of Registration [#85-03-0958T] from the Ohio State Board of Career Colleges and Schools, Columbus, Ohio.

This college is authorized under federal law to enroll non-immigrant alien students.

saa has been consistently approved to admit students through the area Job Training Partnership Act program.

Approved by the State Approving Agency for veterans training, Ohio State Department of Education, Columbus, Ohio.




Programs

diploma program
The accredited Diploma Program consists of 6 quarters [2 academic years] of 100% art assignments: Graphic Design, Illustration and Computer Graphics. All students are required to take each of these classes. By learning design, drawing, illustration, typography, photography and production skills, students create design work that motivates identified audiences’ responses.

Upon graduation, students receive a Diploma of Advertising Art.

Associate degree program
The accredited Associate Degree Program consists of 6 quarters [2 academic years] of all the art classes in the Diploma Program with the addition of 6 academic classes, one to be taken each quarter. All six of these academic classes are designed to be specific to your future career.

Upon graduation, students receive an Associate Degree of Applied Business in Advertising Art.

Academic Courses are only included in the Associate Degree Program. Diploma Program students do not take academic courses. Associate Degree students are required to take an English Placement Exam to determine if an introductory English course is also required.

Bachelor degree affiliations

After graduation from the school of advertising art, students have the option to continue their education to earn a Bachelor Degree at one of four prestigious design colleges.

A graduate may transfer to one of the following without losing any credits earned while at saa:
