The Art Center Design College
VISION STATEMENT
The Art Center Design College strives to become an exemplary force in higher education recognized as a leading College of Art and Design.
MISSION OF THE COLLEGE
The Art Center Design College educates students to excel in the fields of Fine Arts, Design, Advertising and Visual Communications within a student focused environment committed to the highest standards of academic achievement, scholarly inquiry, creativity and citizenship in a diverse world community.
HISTORY OF THE COLLEGE
President Sharmon R. Woods and Chief Academic Officer Marvin R. Woods founded The Art Center Design College in 1983 in Tucson, AZ. The college sprung from the Woods’ graphics firm that frequently hired graphic artists. Finding talented artists grounded in a thorough knowledge of production, illustration and effective design became the challenge.
The Art Center Design College began with two students and has grown into a regionally accredited, nationally recognized college with campuses in Tucson, AZ, and Albuquerque, NM. Art Center graduates work at some of the nation’s most reputable companies such as Nike, CNN, Disney, Carter Industries, Kmart E-Commerce Division, Muscular Dystrophy Association, Raytheon, Sandia Labs, and thousands of local and national agencies and businesses.
The Art Center Design College’s high standards have remained constant throughout the growth and development of the college. A strong focus on traditional skills combined with state-of-the-art computer technology provides students the competitive edge in their field of study.
Program Advisory Committees comprised of successful professionals and working professional instructors have been instrumental in the development and continued support of The Art Center Design College programs. The distinguished Committees meet periodically to review degree and certificate programs, ensuring that the curriculum continues to meet the needs of a competitive, changing marketplace.
MAIN CAMPUS
The Art Center's main campus is located in Tucson, Arizona, a city bordered by mountains. Students find Tucson a fun and active place to live while going to school. Shopping, dining, coffee houses, music and nightlife are all within a few miles of the school.
Arizona is a paradise for activities and recreation. There are the mountains, the museums and the major league baseball. Outdoor enthusiasts can choose to hike, rock-climb or ski in Arizona's alpine country near Flagstaff or in the White Mountains. Water sports in one of many lakes are also popular with Arizonans, as is golf, cycling, horseback riding and hot-air ballooning.
