Mission

The Mission of The Art Institute of Washington as private college of creative professional studies is to prepare students for careers in design, media arts, and culinary arts by providing an educational environment, with attention to changing technologies and other requirements of the global marketplace. Our success is measured by our ability to:

* provide a curriculum that integrates conceptual and analytical skills
* offer education by qualified professionals
* and prepare students for career entry, placement, and growth in their respective fields.

Everything we do must be achieved in accordance with our philosophy of providing quality service. Our goal is that our programs, facilities, faculty, and staff reflect the highest standards of service. Students are the ones who ultimately benefit from this commitment.

Our faculty and staff believe in the worth and potential of each student. We strive to provide quality programs and services that foster development and cultivate artistic growth. We also believe that students, too, should take responsibility for their education. We make sure to give them opportunities to develop leadership skills, build relationships, and learn the skills needed to succeed in their field. As a result, a student graduating from The Art Institute of Washington is prepared for entry-level positions in his or her chosen field.

The Art Institute of Washington holds a special place in the dynamic community in our Nation’s Capital. Our blend of theoretical study and practical skill building gives our graduates a strong foundation on which to build a career. In the end, our goal is to help our students cultivate and refine the talent and skills essential in today's marketplace, and in the future.

Facilities & Resources

In January 2000, The Art Institute of Washington opened at The Ames Center, 1820 North Fort Myer Drive, Arlington, VA. The renovated building provides an ideal learning environment. The interior was designed with the creative student in mind.

The Art Institute occupies the ground floor and the ninth, tenth, eleventh, and twelfth floors of The Ames Center. This space accommodate students and faculty, consists of classrooms, studios, computer labs, a student lounge, administrative offices for staff and faculty, a Learning Resource Center with library and reference materials, student counseling center, tutoring center, teaching kitchens and dining lab, an art supply store, and an exhibition gallery. A key component of our facility and curriculum includes program-specific technology that helps to drive the creative and applied arts.

The Art Institute of Washington is also expanding! With increased enrollment each year, we strive to keep our students comfortable by providing additional facilities for their needs. For example, the Summer of 2004 saw the construction of a new Television Studio and Sound Stage, available to both students and faculty.
