Our History

The Art Institute of York — Pennsylvania, formerly Bradley Academy for the Visual Arts traces its roots back to 1952, when the York Academy of Arts was established. For many years, the school was located on East Philadelphia Street in York. Now, The Art Institute of York — Pennsylvania is housed in a contemporary 38,000 square foot building in York, PA.

Opened in August of 1997, the facility contains 20 classrooms and studios, a student computer commons, a gallery, an art store, and library.The typical class size is less than 25. However, classes may vary in size from 6 to a maximum of 42 for certain lecture classes.

Specialized resource areas such as a graphics lab, display windows and vignette space allow students to apply the skills learned in the classroom.

Parking is available at no charge at the school, which is situated on a seven-acre lot providing ample parking.


Accreditation

The Art Institute of York — Pennsylvania is accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Career Schools and Colleges of Technology (ACCSCT).

The School is also licensed by the State Board of Private Licensed Schools (Pennsylvania Department of Education). Copies of the School's accreditation, licensure, and approvals are available for review by request from the Director.

* US Department of Education for Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants (FSEOG)
* US Department of Education for Federal College Work Study
* Veterans Administration for the Training of Veterans and dependents
* Veterans Administration for the Vocational Rehabilitation of Veterans with service connected disability
* Office of Vocational Rehabilitation (OVR) for training of its clients
* Training of students under Social Security


Facilities

The Art Institute of York — Pennsylvania maintains two computer labs containing over 40 Macintosh G5 & G4 computers and two PC labs running Windows 2000 and Windows XP. All labs are equipped with large (11x17) or small format color scanners and access to over 200 gigabytes of network storage.The computer labs are supported by two Epson Stylus 7600 color printers, four HP LaserJet 5000 printers, and an HP Design Jet color plotter.

The Art Institute of York — Pennsylvania maintains a building-wide local area network and a high-speed (T1) Internet connection. All lab computers have a direct connection to the Internet. In support of our laptop initiative, all network resources are available using wireless technology throughout the school premises.

Students work on the industry standard software, which is regularly upgraded to reflect current industry practice.

Career Services

Employment Assistance
The Art Institute of York — Pennsylvania takes a very active role in the job search process. The Art Institute of York — Pennsylvania maintains a Graduate Services office to assist students and graduates in their job search. In the final term, all students take a Professional Development or Career Skills course tailored to their career field. This course includes instruction about the job search process, including interview techniques, resumé preparation and portfolio presentation.

Student skills are showcased to area employers at portfolio and fashion shows as well as to faculty review panels. Our commitment to the community allows students to use their skills doing projects for area nonprofit organizations. Frequently this work is later included in portfolios or on resumés. These efforts have benefited:
