Graphic Design & Animation - A Picture is Worth Three Words: “I Created That”

Ask a web or print designer which one of the five senses they couldn’t live without, and they’d probably say “sight.” Colors, textures, shapes and images rule their world, and if they buy something, it’s often only because they like the packaging.

Who needs a palette and a brush? People in Graphic Design & Animation want to paint the world—one mouse click at a time.
What does someone in Graphic Design & Animation do?

People in this profession create or design things on computers. Though this sounds simple enough, their work often requires them to know several different software programs in order to edit or create images, graphics, sounds and video files, websites, 3D images, CDs and multimedia presentations.

Some specific jobs in Graphic Design & Animation include:

Web Designers

A web designer is ultimately responsible for the way a website looks. He or she decides how pages will be laid out, what colors will be used, and how text will be arranged. Part of a Web Designer's job also involves converting existing text and graphics (like logos) to an Internet-ready format.

Web Developers

Developers create fully interactive websites using electronic publishing technologies such as Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) and CSS (Cascading Style Sheets). While designers establish the look and feel for a website, a web developer writes the code that puts them together to make them function.

Desktop Publishers

Desktop publishers combine colors, shapes, images and text to produce print-ready material. This involves creating graphics, converting photographs and drawings into digital images and designing page layouts. Materials produced by desktop publishers include books, business cards, advertisements, brochures, magazines, packaging, and more.

Multimedia Developers

Presentations you see on the web or on a CD are the work of multimedia developers. They combine text, photographs, images, sound clips and video files to produce interactive, feature-rich multimedia projects
