MISSION
The Illinois Institute of Art-Chicago is an institution of higher education offering degree and other academic programs in the creative and applied arts to a diverse student body from greater Chicago, the United States, and abroad. The College offers a stimulating learning environment where committed and talented students, led by dedicated and professional faculty, can develop their creativity, and acquire the skills and knowledge to pursue careers in their fields of study.


PURPOSES
The purpose of The Illinois Institute of Art-Chicago is to offer programs of instruction that enable students to develop:

o knowledge and skills necessary for entry-level employment and career growth;
o intellectual ability, social awareness and leadership skills that will enhance their potential for personal and professional success; and
o broader understanding of ethics, culture, history, science and the arts.


Licensing & Accreditation

The Illinois Institute of Art — Chicago is accredited by The Higher Learning Commission and is a member of the North Central Association.

The Illinois Institute of Art — Chicago is approved to award the Associate of Applied Science, Bachelor of Arts, and Bachelor of Fine Arts degrees by the Illinois Board of Higher Education. It is licensed by the Illinois State Board of Education and accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Career Schools and Colleges of Technology.


Facilities and Resources

The Illinois Institute of Art—Chicago has two campus locations on the first floor of the Mart Center at 350 N. Orleans and at 180 N. Wabash in the Loop. Each location has an art gallery for exhibitions, lecture rooms, computer labs, a student lounge, and administrative offices. The Mart Center has the Library, the Academic Learning Center, and an Interior Design resource center.

Art Rooms
The art classrooms are located along the west wall of the building overlooking the Chicago River. Interior rooms are utilized for lecture classes.

Computer Labs
The facility includes eleven computer labs with high speed Internet access. There are six PC based labs (four running Windows 2000 and two running WindowsNT) and five Macintosh labs running MAC OS9.

Culinary Site
Culinary students take General Education courses at the main campus with art and design students. Cooking, sanitation and nutrition classes are held at the nearby satellite location, just one El stop or a ten minute walk from the main building.

Interior Design Resource Room
Interior Design students have access to literally thousands of sample fabrics, floor and wall covering, and furniture catalogs. Design firms within the Merchandise Mart often make donations of materials providing an ever-changing array of resources for projects.

Learning Center
The College Learning Center is a well used resource. Faculty offer nearly 75 hours of tutoring per week. Students may sign up for group or private sessions. The Learning Center offers 16 computer workstations for student use with Compass tutorial software for English and Math and Microsoft Office.

Library
The Library has about 30,000 volumes and many specialized resources which includes11 online databases, a large sound effects collection, a digital visual database of 85,000 images, an online software tutorial service, and many specialized trade and consumer magazines.

Supply Store
Students can purchase the art and classroom supplies needed for their classes right on campus at our Art Supply Store. There is also an on-campus service bureau that provides students with high quality computer prints and check-out services for audio and video equipment.
