SOCA Mission

The School of Creative Arts at the University of Saint Francis is a creative, collaborative learning environment providing a personalized education for emerging artists, musicians, communicators and scholars.

You will study with distinguished faculty who are also award winning, published and exhibited artists, communicators and scholars.

We invite you to join an academic program that is recognized and accredited by The National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD). USF is one of 250 art schools accredited in the United States and one of only seven in the state of Indiana.

The School of Creative Arts at the University of Saint Francis provides students with a solid education in the arts which encompasses both traditionally and technologically advanced methods of arts education. It facilitates learning and professional development for a diverse student body.

Franciscan values are promoted in the coursework and learning experience to provide for the personal growth of each student. The Associate Degree in Communication Arts and Graphic Design provides students with working knowledge in a specific concentration.

The various Bachelor of Art degrees complement the liberal arts tradition of the university and educate students in programs which specifically promote the areas of studio art, communication arts and graphic design, computer art, art education, communication and music technology. The School of Creative Arts offers coursework in Music, Dance and Theater.

The Master of Art program builds upon a baccalaureate foundation to provide a student with expertise in a specific major and minor; a graduate certificate in arts administration is also offered.

NASAD Accreditation

In October 2004, The National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD), voted to grant membership to the School of Creative Arts at the University of Saint Francis. We share this honor with only 260 other schools in the country.

Facilities

The Mimi and Ian Rolland Art and Visual Communication Center

In the summer of 1998, the University purchased a former Standard Oil property and warehouse which was used from 1890 until the 1970s as a storage facility. The ground surrounding the buildings contained a petroleum product residue. The University of Saint Francis determined that this environmental Brownfield could be cleaned up and revitalized. This action would benefit the entire community and provide a home for the School of Creative Arts.

Today, what was once a useless site is now fully clean and serves a vital purpose for the School of Creative Arts at the University of Saint Francis. The aesthetic qualities found in the renovated 41,000 square foot complex create an environment that is attractive and conducive to the creative process.

The buildings house studio space for all areas of art and communication, exhibition spaces, and professionally equipped video and computer facilities. There are 580 computer outlets in the facility allowing technology to be taken to all areas of the department.

Annex - student studios

In 2006, the University purchased a neighboring property which was once home to a service station and oil drums. Because of these drums, the ground surrounding the building contained a petroleum product residue. The University of Saint Francis purchased this environmental Brownfield, cleaned it up and have revitalized the old structure which now houses 12 private studio spaces for USF art students. The building is also home to the fiber arts classroom.
Every semester, students are able to apply for private studio space with the School of Creative Arts Coordinator.
