A History of Creative Thinking
For over 130 years we have defined creativity. The University of the Arts in Philadelphia is the first and only university in the United States solely dedicated to educating creative individuals in the visual, performing and communication arts. Our 2,300 students and 500 faculty members are all doing what they love.

A Vibrant Urban Campus
Our campus in Center City Philadelphia stretches for six block along the Avenue of the Arts from Walnut Street to South Street. Here, faculty mentors guide aspiring student artists and communicators from over 30 countries to become well-prepared professionals.


Facilities

The University of the Arts campus is comprised of 10 buildings—hybrid facilities which are part historical landmarks and part technology powerhouses. Click here for a Virtual Tour of UArts campus.

• Dorrance H. Hamilton Hall (Pine and Broad Streets) includes Solmssen Court, galleries and computer labs.

• Anderson Hall (333 S. Broad St.) is home to the Albert M. Greenfield Library, computer labs and galleries, including the Rosenwald-Wolf Gallery.

• Terra Building (211 S. Broad St.) contains galleries, computer labs, photo processing labs and darkrooms, dance practice studios, a film and production studio, state of the art studio editing facilities, an audio/video transfer room, and online video editing suites. The Skyline Performing Arts Center is slated to open here during the 2007-2008 academic year.

• Merriam Theater Building (1874 seat theater) houses the University’s School of Music and major student performance hall. It also has recording studios, practice rooms, a piano lab, computer and synthesizer workstation labs, an audio-for-video dubbing and editing lab, and a state-of-the-art percussion studios.

• Gershman Hall boasts the 800-seat newly-renovated Levitt Auditorium, an intimate blackbox theater, a gallery, and a gym used as rehearsal studio space.

• Philadelphia Arts Bank includes a 230-seat cabaret theater and practice studios.

• Residence Halls: Juniper Residence, Pine Residence, Spruce Residence, and Furness Residence.

Smart Spaces
Every instructional space on UArts’ campus is “smart” with robust internet access.

Rental Spaces
We offer a variety of spaces for private events.

The University of the Arts is dedicated to educating the next generation of creative leaders, recognized both for their individual artistic achievement and for their contribution to advancing the character and status of their chosen discipline, by inspiring students to learn, create, lead and contribute to society through the arts and media.

Accreditation

The University of the Arts is authorized by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to grant degrees in the visual, performing, and related arts, and is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools (Commission on Higher Education, Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, 3624 Market Street, Philadelphia, PA 19104; telephone: 276-284-5000). The College of Art and Design is also an accredited institutional member of the National Association of the Schools of Art and Design, and the Industrial Designers' Society of America. The School of Music is also accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music.
