Theatre Program

Western’s Theatre program has a long standing reputation for professional and award winning theatre, musical theatre and dance productions. Our program offers talented and dedicated students many opportunities. Our primary objective is to nourish the individual in a safe, high-quality, professional environment. The curriculum is carefully crafted to educate and train well-rounded theatre artists. Our small class sizes enable students to get the personal attention from our professors, allowing students to develop at a pace that is comfortable for them. This also makes it possible to guarantee performance and technical opportunities every year for each student – opportunities rare for freshman or sophomores in four-year programs. Our quality education is founded on creating a friendly and safe environment allowing students to feel more comfortable in experimenting and making bold decisions. Among all of our hard work, we make time to have fun. All of the members of our department share a love of the theatre. This attitude prevails through all our work, and helps to support each other. Here, attitude is as important as talent.

Theatre Program

Musical Theatre
The Musical Theatre program is a special composite study of Dance, Music and Theatre, which leads to an Associate of Fine Arts degree. True Musical Theatre programs are rare throughout the country, so Western is proud to have one of the best. Some of the classes offered are: Acting, Acting for Musical Theatre, Music Theory, Singing for the Actor, Modern Dance, Jazz Dance, Tap Dance, Ballet, American Musical Theatre History, and many more. Every year Musical Theatre students perform in musicals, non-musicals and our resident dance company. One of these productions goes on tour around the Rocky Mountain Region every year. These production opportunities give students the chance to use their education in a practical and enjoyable way.

Technical Theatre
Our award winning Technical Theatre program leads to an Associate of Fine Arts Degree OR a One-Year Certificate in Technical Theatre. These programs teach students about set construction, stage lighting, sound technology & design, stage rigging, stage management, scenographics, set design, welding for the theatre, electronics for the theatre, and many other related courses. Technical Theatre students provide the technical support for all of the department’s productions. They build the sets, paint the drops, hang, focus, and program lights, and set up and run sound. All of this work is a pleasure in our extremely well equipped, multi-million dollar, state-of-the-art theatre facility.

Art Department

The Art Department at Western Wyoming College provides a two-year foundation program for all of the Visual Arts. In this program, we strive to develop, in every student, a vocabulary of visual literacy which will provide a creative foundation for a future profession or specialty. The program offers foundation courses in design, drawing, painting, ceramics, photography, art history, and graphic design as well as additional courses and workshops in sculpture, printmaking, watercolor, and color photography. It provides the foundation requirements for design and art careers and will transfer to all four year degree programs. Our facilities house a permanent gallery, sculpture and ceramic area, print room, painting studio, and photography lab and studio.
